What Is mudging? And why is this related to sage and palo santo?
Both are used for “smudging”—lighting the material, then blowing out the flame to allow the smoke to waft around, often used to cleanse homes, themselves, or items like crystals.
What is energy cleansing?
Energy cleansing is the practice of using crystals, plants, or other objects to cleanse away negative energies and create a balanced environment for healing. You can use this type of cleansing to clear your aura, as well as any space in which you wish to create positive energy.
What Exactly Is Energy?
When we talk about energy in the context of energy cleansing, we are referring to a type of invisible force that is believed to flow through all living things. This energy can become stagnant or blocked, which can lead to feelings of unease and discomfort.
It can go by many different names, such as “Prana,” “Chi,” or “Aura,” but whatever you call it, the important thing to remember is that this energy affects our physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
Energy Blockages
Negative emotions, stressful situations, and physical ailments can all cause our energy to become blocked or stagnant.
This can lead to feelings of….
The big D of Depression, exhaustion, anxiety, and other negative emotional states.
Putting yourself in energy that is stressful, negative and stagnant (such as people who are habitually negative or unhappy) also generates energy of a denser kind. After all you are what you surround yourself with, every element influences the other.
Having self-awareness is key. If you feel negative energy or emotions.. Pay attention to where you have been, who you have been around and cleanse yourself with plants like palo santo and sage, epsom salt baths, meditation, washing clothes, yoga, hydration and staying away from the source of negative energy influences. Of course, it is impossible to avoid everything. You may love your partner or friend who may be going through something and want to help them… Of course it’s okay to help them but you want to try keep your energy balanced as much as possible.
What narratives, beliefs, and situations are creating these feelings(and thus, are affecting your energy)??
Stepping away & looking at things from a different perspective can help shift your energy or view of yourself and the world around you.
Effects
Clearer, brighter, healthy energy invites a more easier way for you to manifest your desired outcome, attract positive energies, wealth, luxury, better productivity, moved bad energy, reduced stress levels, creating an atmosphere of peace and harmony, Energy cleansing can be a powerful tool for creating the life you desire.
Never underestimate the power of energy, energy makes up you and the entire universe. It is a foundational understanding to improve your life and to be aware of things, conscious to your soul & to the world.
So quickly to recap.. Palo santo is a native tree from South America.. It is said to bring about good fortune, repel negative energy and bring in a calm and peaceful environment. Used by shamans, healers, people of the ancient worlds and modern worlds.
Sage has been used throughout the ages to cleanse negative energy and is native to many parts of the world. Can help attract positive energies into your life and clean your aura. I will do a seperate post getting into the mechanics of auras.. What they are, if this dubious to most concept, has some substance, science or ancient history behind it.
Palo santo brings a sweet, woodsy smell that many people find calming and soothing..
Sage has a strong, herbal scent that many people find to be earthy and grounding. Depending on your preferences, you may find one scent more pleasant than the other.
Most websites state that palo santo should be burned directly, while sage needs to be smudged by using a feather or fan to disperse the smoke throughout the space.
Brief history
Palo santo has been used by indigenous peoples in South America for a long period of time, mainly in the Andes region. The wood was traditionally used in shamanic practices for spiritual purification purposes, to clear evil spirits, and to attract positive energy and good fortune.
Purifying the air, palo santo promoted and still promotes spiritual healing in ceremonies. It was believed that palo santo had medicinal properties and could treat colds, headaches, stomachaches, and even emotional pain in some communities.
Besides being used as sacred plant medicine, palo santo wood was also being used for practical purposes by the indigenous populations of the Amazon basin. In addition to repelling mosquitoes and other insects, it was used in soaps and perfumes.
The History of Sage
Sage is believed by researchers to have originated in the Mediterranean region, but it can now be found all over the world..
Sage has long been used as a tool to invite positive spirits in, as well as to ward off negative energies.
In many native cultures, plants are more than living things – they are seen as having souls and spirits. The same is true for sage.. Rather than being inanimate, they are seen as more animate in energy.
Burning sage has served as a means of connecting to the spiritual realm and the earth’s spirit. Burning sage with intention allows the sage’s spirit to lend its cleansing and protective energy to your space, body, and energy.” ~ Source: Online websites research, a configuration of knowledge and data on sage and palo santo in my own words.
